Wittnauer 7004A
The Valjoux 7733 movement is a true classic and there’s a plethora of fantastic vintage pieces built around it. Out of the countless options, this Wittnauer 7004A is most certainly my favorite. This is without a doubt one of the nicer examples I’ve seen, thanks in no small part to the correct hands with no missing tritium and the gorgeous red bezel insert. With even patina throughout the hand and markers, sharp text on the barley aged dial, and solid lugs with minimal wear, this piece truly looks like it was in a time capsule. The price is at a premium for this reference but at least the Pound to US Dollar exchange rate is much better thanks to the Brexit. These 7004A’s have been slowly increasing in price and nice examples like this are becoming harder to find, so you best scoop this one up quick.

Omega Speedmaster Mark III
We have discussed at length before how much we appreciate the vintage Speedmaster “Mark” series of watches. They represent one of my favorite time periods in Omega’s history when they were thinking outside the standard Speedy box and came up with some very inventive watches that are totally unique and still look just as great today. One of the lesser appreciated ones of that era, yet one that is still just as awesome as all the others, is the Speedmaster Mark III. It’s hard not to love a watch with a movement that is both from Omega and Lemania. This example is an outstanding one. The deep blue dial and bezel that has turned slightly purple immediately sets this apart from the standard black dialed and bezeled ones. A white sub dial at 6, the light blue and gray bordered sub dial at 9, along with the orange-tipped minute counter make the dial pop. I hardly ever see these for sale so now is your chance. ’70s Speedmaster + Lemania movement + Flightmaster case = buy this now.

Universal Geneve Aero Compax
My first pick for this week comes from European Watch Co. in Boston, and it’s simply awesome. This is a Ref. 22477 Aero-Compax from Universal Geneve, seen here in stainless steel, with an incredibly clean dial and a thick, defined case. Some of my favorite details on this piece are the blued steel hands which contrast beautifully against the silver multi-scale dial, along with burnt shade of orange that the luminous compound on both the dial and hands has aged to. At 36mm across, this example from 1942 is nicely sized, and would look great on a blue shell cordovan strap. Green straps are kinda my thing, but I must say that something in blue would pair well the 8 hands on the dial.

Seiko Olympics Chronograph
With the Summer Olympics in full swing, I thought I’d throw in another one of these Seiko “Olympics” chronographs, which were first produced in 1964 for the Tokyo Olympic Games, where Seiko was the official timing partner. It’s a bit of a quirky one-button chronograph, much like the Omega Chronostop, but considerably better looking, in my personal opinion. This particular example dates to 1967, making it a later production model, with a seahorse caseback.

This New York City weather has got me a little salty. Seriously, I’m sweating buckets. If you venture into the subway the air is not dissimilar to what I imagine the inside of a dead water buffalo’s rectum must feel like as the poor beast’s carcass rots away under the blazing hot African sun.

Dugena Yachting Chronograph
First up for me is a yachting chrono from Dugena, one of those forgotten brands from before the days of the evil battery. Not only would this watch be perfect for navigating the horribly polluted Brazilian waterways, but it would look great doing it. I love the asymmetrical subdial sizes, the multicolor minute counter, and the double-tailed running second hand. Overall the watch is in fantastic condition, and the price seems right for these ’60s style dive watch cases you see so often.

Certina Chronolympic Chronograph
Yet another chronograph just born to keep time whilst dodging Zika-carrying mosquitoes. This one here is a Certina Chronolympic, and it carries the venerable Valjoux 72 movement. The dial has taken on a brown fade from what I believe was originally black, although I could be wrong about that. I love that it has a Certina bracelet and I’m impressed with the overall case condition. With 2 days left, this lot hasn’t quite hit $2K yet, which I think should be a good benchmark on value. Under $2.5K wouldn’t be a bad buy in my opinion.
