Introducing the European Watch Company App

Interestingly enough, for an industry that relies heavily on an antiquated profession, the mechanical watch world is benefitting more and more from modern technology. Blogs are popping up left and right; with the help of Kevin Rose, Google is getting involved; and one of the fastest moving second-hand marketplaces is Instagram. Watch collectors have never been more in love with mechanical watches, and they can’t get enough information and “watch porn”. In an attempt to not only to join in on the “e” trend, but also take it to the next level, European Watch Company recently announced their buying-selling-trading iOS app.

European Watch Company

For the uninitiated, European Watch Company is a pre-owned luxury watch retailer that does a tremendous amount of business over the internet, as well as in their storefront in Boston. For almost 25 years, EWC has curated a stellar inventory of watches, ranging from $1,500 Hamilton and Bell & Ross watches, to $200,000 Patek Philippe perpetual calendar chronographs and tourbillons. It’s become a true safe haven for watch lovers in Beantown, and one of the longest running shops on Newbury Street.

Now, before I get too far into this, I want to be upfront. About six months ago, I joined the EWC team primarily as a vintage specialist, but also to wear a number of other “hats”. Writing about the EWC app launch may come off as biased, or even teetering on a conflict of interest, but I hope by now you’ve all come to appreciate our ability to be unbiased and unfiltered. While we may bring in some ad revenue in the near future, our content remains unbiased by external influences, and we stick to things we believe in. That’s exactly why I’m writing about this app – because I believe it’s newsworthy and very much cutting edge in the industry.

Getting back to the app, it’s gone through countless hours of tweaking and adjusting, and it’s finally ready for show time. Navigating it, you’ll find EWC’s several hundred in-stock watches at the touch of the screen, along with some of the best hi-res photos out there. Just like the website, inventory is broken out by brand, complication, ladies watches, and vintage watches. It’s all very intuitive and easy to use, as is the buy-sell-trade functionality. Each watch has an “Inquire” button to start a dialog with the sales team, and there’s a “Sell or Trade” tab where you can send a description of your watch along with pictures. Within a couple of hours or less, someone from the sales team will be in touch about your inquiry.

Buying, selling, and trading watches has never been easier. Chrono24, Govberg, and Watch Recon have their apps, and now European Watch Company has thrown their hat into the ring. I’ve used them all, and I find the EWC app to be just as, or even easier, to use and navigate. At the very least, it’s a great way to get your fill of “watch porn”. Now, you’ve heard what I’ve had to say, so here’s a direct link to the Apple download page to see for yourself.  I know Josh would love to hear your feedback on the app, therefore feel free to contact him by email at Joshua@europeanwatch.com.
